What is the difference between mic6 and 7075?

Views: 474 Update date: Apr 03,2024
MIC 6 and 7075 are both aluminum alloys, but they have different compositions and properties, making them suitable for different applications:

MIC 6:

* MIC 6 is a cast aluminum tooling plate that is known for its excellent flatness and dimensional stability.
* It is produced using a process called continuous casting, which results in a fine-grained and homogeneous structure.
* MIC 6 has good machinability and is often used in applications where flatness and stability are critical, such as precision machining, tooling, and fixtures.

* It has lower strength compared to 7075 but offers better flatness and dimensional stability.

7075:

* 7075 is a high-strength aluminum alloy primarily composed of aluminum, zinc, and magnesium.
* It is known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and good fatigue resistance, making it ideal for applications requiring high strength, such as aerospace components, bicycle frames, and structural parts.
* 7075 is heat treatable, allowing it to achieve even higher strength levels through heat treatment processes such as solution heat treatment and aging.

* Compared to MIC 6, 7075 has higher strength but may not offer the same level of flatness and dimensional stability.

In summary, MIC 6 is valued for its flatness and stability, making it suitable for precision machining applications, while 7075 is preferred for its high strength-to-weight ratio and is commonly used in aerospace and structural applications where strength is critical.
